In the past, if you were trying to run a text-message survey at a large event, you would end up with surveys slowing down. But now, we support up to 200 participants at a time!
The number we provide is a 10-digit number and not a short code (5-6 digit number). 10-digit numbers face throttling by our text messaging provider under high volume to avoid abuse. We do not control this throttling, and the cell phone carriers don't like to see spam-like behavior on 10-digit numbers.
However, about 20-30 people can take the survey at once with little delay. If you need higher volume, there is a setting you can opt into so up to 200 people at a time can take the survey comfortably.
How We Did it
A customer will text your number to initiate the survey, but the questions and interactions will happen on another number. This high volume option will make the survey questions come from a number that is not the number we assigned. That way we can spread the texts across multiple numbers.
To Enable High-Volume Messaging
To enable high volume messaging for text-message surveys, go to:
Manage tab > Surveys tab
Click "Survey Limits & Usage" on left-hand menu.
Check the box for "Support More than 25 Simultaneous Participants".
If you need to support up to 200 participants at a time, check the box. Once you do, when participants text the keyword to your number, the survey questions will come from a different number, an 800-number. That number will be used until the participant has completed the survey. Other participants will see a different 800-number. This allows us to spread out the survey over multiple numbers.
